If you’re in the NYC area, don’t miss the chance to see the absolutely incredible installation of the manga-inspired works of the Murakami protégée & frequent co-conspirator known to the world only as “MR.” at Chelsea’s LEHMANN MAUPIN GALLERY before it closes on Saturday, June 23rd. Dealing with the theme of “otaku” or “obsessive” culture in his native Japan, the show displays an impressive array of beautifully detailed Pop paintings and large-scale sculpture, particularly the giant walk-in model of a girl’s head with an interior staged like a Japanese teenager’s fantasy bedroom.
