Hookers gone wild…

Dedicated to keeping Hollywood’s trashy legacy intact for a whole new generation of Angelinos, painter/exhibitionist NATALIA FABIA staged the debut of her “MISS HOOKER” pageant last week at West Hollywood’s DRAGONFLY on April Fool’s Day as a decidedly fitting tribute to the excesses of left coast culture. Of course, Fabia uses the term “Hookers” loosely as the pageant was not actually a contest for the working girls of Hollywood Blvd, but rather a celebration of Natalia’s loose group of sultry and empowered danger girl muses & femme fatale friends—many of whom have provided the subject matter of Fabia’s ongoing series of “hooker” paintings—with a bit of a Suicide Girls-esque twist on the institution of American pageantry. Hosted by comedian Skyler Stone, and featuring a musical performance of the show’s theme song, “There She is, Miss Hooker,” by Torrance Jackson, the show tantalized revelers with an ocean of tattooed female flesh and entertained with enough tongue-in-cheek “talent” displays to constitute a circus sideshow. Luckily, our girl JULIE KLIMA was busy with the camera. HAVE A LOOK:

NYC///ART HYPE///MR BRAINWASH PERFECTS THE ART OF TURD POLISHING WITH THE OPENING OF “ICONS”

What has to be the final nail in the “Street Art” coffin was driven in last weekend by none other than MR. BRAINWASH (aka: “The Christian Audigier of Street Art”) when he opened his massive, self-produced “Icons” show in a rented space (which, ironically, was once a real art gallery, pre-recession) in the heart of Chelsea. As the subject of Brit Street Art king Banksy’s recent docu-parody film, “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” MBW has been the focus of much hype and speculation as his presence finally seeps into the fairly muddy stream of mainstream consciousness. Last week’s Wall Street Journal article articulated this particularly well:
