MIAMI///FIRST LOOK: KAWS’ “SATURATED” SHOW AT GALERIE EMMANUEL PERROTIN

Supertouch buddy and perennial favorite KAWS marks his formal return to the gallery world after years of building an enviable toy and clothing empire with collaborators MEDICOM TOY and his own brand ORIGINAL FAKE with “Saturated,” a new series of mostly large-scale paintings at Miami’s GALERIE EMMANUEL PERROTIN. Sponsored by musician/ collector/dedicated patron Pharrell, the show debuts a new series of Spongebob Squarepants-themed images that pay homage to his animation industry roots and seem to be a mirror for the artist’s own range of emotional expressions, especially when working on his stress-fueled schedule of never-ending deadlines that occupy the majority of his waking (and non) hours. Leading up to this weekend’s opening, the NYTimes has dropped a fresh interview with XX-eyed artist on their THE MOMENT blog. Meanwhile, HAVE A LOOK:
