Looking beautiful in the Arizona sunset this week is ROA's incredible painted jet for curator Eric Firestone's ambitious "Boneyard Project." Featuring a giant bird skeleton in the trademark style of the Belgian street artist on a decomissioned jet from the Korean War, the skeletal aircraft stands as a testament to an ambitious project slowly turning Phoenix into a world class art attraction. Soul brothers (in both art & fashion) and Supertouch buddies Jose Parla & JR (who just kicked off his massive "Inside Out New York City" street art project in Times Square) celebrated their upcoming joint exhibition at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in NYC last week by creating a giant collab mural in Chelsea. Located on 24th St at 10th Ave, the 20+ foot mural celebrates their recent "Wrinkles of the City" project in Cuba, a theme which will be reflected in their gallery show togheter opening May 7th. Brooklyn-based Dan Witz, renowned for his installations of ultra-realistic figurative street art is currently in Berlin, Germany, where he's been hitting the walls with his "Free Pussy Riot" series. Honoring the jailed Russian activist female punk rock band of the same name whose members have been sentenced to Siberian labor camps for their controversial displays of anti-Puin sentiment in Moscow, Witz' paste-ups are installed on the inside of small door windows in an effort to depict the band members as they appear behind jail doors. Opening last week was a beautiful joint show of new work by Supertouch buddies Rostarr and Saber at Opera Gallery in New York City. Having emerged from separate origin points within the underground art world, the two artists work in markedly different styles but are unified by their florid approaches to abstract painting with an emphasis on flowing script as centerpieces of their compositions. Currently traveling in Brasil, Supertouch buddy Miss Van recently wrapped up a beautiful new mural with fellow street artist Ciro Schu featuring her brightly-colored iconic figures embracing beneath a tribal, abstract tonal arch by Schu. Read More
The international crew of culture jammers, street artists, graffitists, and general ne'er-do-wells known as Trusto Crop made the city of Los Angeles their home base of operations in 2013. To celebrate, the band of outsiders initiated a full court press of subversive diatribe in the streets and supermarkets of LA with an allegorical street art and guerilla cereal box campaign leading up to their crowning achievement, the opening of Trusto's first West Coast gallery show, "The Future is Blight" at Lebasse Projects in Culver City on April 13th. French social activist street artist JR continues his ongoing "Wrinkles of the City" project with his latest gallery show of the same name, this time in Berlin at Galerie Henrik Springmann. Opening to a packed house on Wednesday, April 17th, the exhibition showcased a selection of his photographic images wheatpasted onto large wooden palettes mimicking the physical nature of his street-level installations alongside a series of beautiful photographic prints depicting his street pieces as they appeared installed around the world, from China to Cuba.
