LA///STREET LIFE///NECK FACE IS CREEPIN WHILE YOU’RE SLEEPIN

Neck simultaneously brightens and darkens up Melrose & Fairfax…

NASTY NECK FACE has been a busy guy since touching down in Hollywood earlier this month, and today he unleashed his biggest bomb in LA to date on the front wall of Melrose streetwear hotspot BARRACUDA. Wrecking shop in a marathon eight hour painting session (almost like working a real job) in the subtropical weather that is our winter, the graffiti gremlin left behind a piece so bright it practically glows in the dark—and the day. That 1/10th of a second did suck…

Supertouch homie NECK FACE may have abandoned NYC for the warm climes of his native California earlier this month, but he left a formidable trail of visual destruction as a reminder nonetheless. Fanboys and girls needn’t worry, however, Nasty Neck’s up to plenty of no good in the LA hood this week, stay tuned to ST for updates. Meanwhile, HAVE A LOOK: Read the rest of this entry »

HOLLYWOOD///STREET POLITIKS///NECK FACE’S OPEN LETTER TO OBAMA

January 23rd, 2009

Nasty Neck makes an appeal for more than just “change” from Obama…

Last nite, graffiti gremlin NECK FACE took advantage of some down time between billboard postings on the front wall of Hollywood fashion hotspot BARRACUDA to leave a note for freshly-inaugurated President OBAMA. Representing “la gente” to the fullest, Nasty Neck lets the Big O know his economic reform package should indeed be the first order of business this week: “we don’t need change, we need dollars, homie!” In other news, Barracuda is expanding to include an art gallery component this summer. Stay tuned to Supertouch for details coming soon. HAVE A LOOK: Read the rest of this entry »

HOLLWOOD///OPENINGS///NASTY NECK FACE’s “CANNIBAL CARNIVAL” BLOODBATH AT NEW IMAGE ART

Nasty Neck as Zorro with his motley crew and (below) their clown counterparts…

Saturday nite in Hollywood was like Halloween in August when the street art goblin known as NECK FACE took over LA’s NEW IMAGE ART gallery with his new “Cannibal Carnival” art show. A short and bittersweet exhibition of 6 large new paintings (Neck’s best yet) all retailing for a healthy $6,500 a pop, augmented by garish black & red wall treatment, a super-tight, yet super skate-able miniature mini ramp, OG style Venice stoner graffiti, and enough dirty skaters and filthy hipsters to choke a rat, the show was one of LA’s summer highlights. Of course, the drunken afterparty stumble fest back at Canter’s rated pretty highly too, but we’re not gonna get into those messy details here. HAVE A LOOK: Read the rest of this entry »

LA///SNEEK PEEK: NASTY NECK FACE AT NEW IMAGE ART…

August 15th, 2008

“Ass, gas, or grass, no one rides for free” in Nasty Neck’s clown car…

The inimitable art gremlin and nonstop tagging phenomenon known as NECK FACE is back in Cali and hard at work hanging his show of new work at West Hollywood’s NEW IMAGE ART gallery. Aptly titled “Cannibal Carnival,” and set to open this Saturday, August 16, the show of new paintings and other grisly surprises represents the young demon’s best work yet, and we’re especially happy with his new “evil clown” theme. NYC///ART HYPE///MR BRAINWASH PERFECTS THE ART OF TURD POLISHING WITH THE OPENING OF “ICONS”

What has to be the final nail in the “Street Art” coffin was driven in last weekend by none other than MR. BRAINWASH (aka: “The Christian Audigier of Street Art”) when he opened his massive, self-produced “Icons” show in a rented space (which, ironically, was once a real art gallery, pre-recession) in the heart of Chelsea. As the subject of Brit Street Art king Banksy’s recent docu-parody film, “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” MBW has been the focus of much hype and speculation as his presence finally seeps into the fairly muddy stream of mainstream consciousness. Last week’s Wall Street Journal article articulated this particularly well:

By now it’s no secret that JEFFREY DEITCH is closing shop in downtown NYC to head West for the sunnier confines of the MoCA Director’s office, starting June 1st.
