NEWS///FILM///ANNOUNCING THE PREMIERE OF RON ENGLISH’S “ABRAHAM OBAMA” DOCUMENTARY

February 6th, 2009

Supertouch’s own billboard liberator RON ENGLISH was a busy man this election season, canvassing the US plastering copies of his graphically disturbing “Abraham Obama” hybrid portrait on city walls across the expanse of this great country. On hand to capture it all was director KEVIN CHAPADOS whose created the documentary film “Abraham Obama” to chronicle Ronnie’s great political journey including run-ins with like-minded counter culturalists Morgan Spurlock, The Date Farmers, Shepard Fairey, Jack Medicine, David Choe, Sam Flores, and DJ Z-Trip along the way. The film will premiere at San Francisco’s Roxie Theater on Sunday, February 15th at 12:30pm, with an additional screening on Wednesday, February 18th at 7:30pm. Don’t sleep…

Just in time to celebrate President-Elect BARACK OBAMA’s upcoming inauguration on January 20th, the SHEPARD FAIREY-organized MANIFEST HOPE DC art show (in collaboration with MoveOn.org) has opened its doors to the public in the nation’s capitol. An extension of the original “Manifest Hope” show last year at the Democratic National Convention, this year’s installment enjoys the distinction of celebrating a hard-won change instead of stating the case for it. Featuring original artwork by a diverse array of artists including Shepard Fairey, Tim Biskup, Tristan Eaton, Ron English, David Choe, Maya Hayuk, Andy Howell, Chris Pastras, HAZE, Travis Millard, House Industries, HVW8, Zoltron, JK5, Justin Hampton, Robbie Conal, and Sam Flores, the inclusive show is intended to reflect the grassroots movement that helped propel Obama to unheard of stratospheric heights. Ron and his McBuddy rule Hong Kong with an iron fist and an army of undead Charlie Browns…

Making the rounds in old Hong Kong this week was Supertouch’s own RON ENGLISH who hit up the island for the official debut of two of his new toy projects: his ABRAHAM OBAMA bust and SMILE figure. First up was his “Smile” reception at GARAGEWORKS GALLERY, where faithful HK hipsters turned up in droves to get a close-up glimpse at the New Jersey bad boy’s brand-new vinyl reworking of old Charlie Brown’s familiar grille. Moving along, it was off to the MINDSTYLE TOYS world HQ for the debut of Ronnie’s timely Abraham Obama bust, a figure that must surely have HK residents scratching their heads in bewilderment. Dropping worldwide just in time for inauguration day, American fans can get ahold of the very elusive silver colorway exclusively at LA’s hipster hotspot BARRACUDA, while supplies last. Even better than that crusy Beethoven bust you’ve got on your piano…

Supertouch’s resident Popagandist and billboard liberator RON ENGLISH put “Abraham Obama,” his incredibly unique hybrid portrait of BARACK OBAMA and ABRAHAM LINCOLN into play early in the Big O’s presidential campaign via a massive series of eye-catching posters wheatpasted, guerilla-style, across the walls of America’s urban centers. To commemorate the unique nature of today’s presidential election, MINDSTYLE TOYS has dropped their collaborative homage with Mr. English in the form of a gleaming white 16″ vinyl bust of “Abraham Obama,” sculpted by Vin Teng in a limited edition of 50 pieces. Retailing at $200 USD, the piece is available for order exclusively through Mindstyle.com. Don’t sleep. And more importantly, don’t forget to vote…

NEWS///POLITIKS///RON ENGLISH WEIGHS IN ON THE ECONOMY

September 28th, 2008

retirementweb.jpg

The underground art world’s most outspoken political agitator, Supertouch’s own RON ENGLISH is not happy about the economic bailout. Needless to say, Clear Channel isn’t going to be very happy either when these new media bombs start appearing—sans permission—around the country. And, for dissidents who like to take billboard liberation into their own hands, hi-res EPS files of the images can be downloaded HERE. Just don’t tell us what you did with them and no one gets busted. HAVE A LOOK: Read the rest of this entry »

Ronnie packs up the kids for a summer vacation in Denver…

Street art saboteur and renegade Supertouch Popagandist RON ENGLISH has taken to the streets in Denver where he’s front and center at the pro-OBAMA art-a-thon that is the “Manifest Hope” gallery show supporting “Barry” during his DNC tour-de-force. Of course, his art wasn’t confined to the sterile gallery walls and soon Ronnie’s street bombs began appearing in lotsa places they weren’t supposed to. Here we get a peek at the first bits. SOUND + VISION///POP LIFE///RON EGNLISH’s “OBAMA SONG”…

August 14th, 2008

In a move that literally none of us could possibly anticipate, Supertouch’s own street saboteur & Popagandist, RON ENGLISH has written a musical homage to golden boy presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA, and had it recorded by THE SUTCLIFFES, and just to up the ante, he’s filmed a video incorporating footage of his recent “Abraham Obama” street installation in Boston…

BOSTON///POPAGANDA///RON ENGLISH’S “ABRAHAM OBAMA” CONTROVERSY…

July 15th, 2008

Looks like being considered a Muslim is the least of Barack’s 99 problems now…

It seems that Supertouch’s own RON ENGLISH can’t catch a break. After gifting the residents of Boston’s South End with a 100 foot long rainbow “Abraham Obama” wheatpaste poster mural depicting the image of presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA melded with the portrait of America’s 16th president, the city’s residents are crying for its removal. Not on political or even aesthetic grounds—though the installation has polarized viewers on both topics—but for the hundreds of illegal posters that have since popped up on walls around the city. Installed legally to commemorate the opening of Boston’s GALLERY XIV political art show “A Politic,” it seems our resident Popagandist made plentiful black & white copies of his hybrid portrait available free of charge to the show’s attendees who have since taken it upon themselves to plaster the images on nearly every flat vertical surface around town. With the gallery fielding angry calls from the Mayor’s office and MSNBC reporting nationally on the event, it seems young Abe’s days might be numbered. Enjoy it while you can. NYC///ART HYPE///MR BRAINWASH PERFECTS THE ART OF TURD POLISHING WITH THE OPENING OF “ICONS”

4363964574_0f10031e70_o
What has to be the final nail in the “Street Art” coffin was driven in last weekend by none other than MR. BRAINWASH (aka: “The Christian Audigier of Street Art”) when he opened his massive, self-produced “Icons” show in a rented space (which, ironically, was once a real art gallery, pre-recession) in the heart of Chelsea. As the subject of Brit Street Art king Banksy’s recent docu-parody film, “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” MBW has been the focus of much hype and speculation as his presence finally seeps into the fairly muddy stream of mainstream consciousness. Last week’s Wall Street Journal article articulated this particularly well:
