Stuntboy, armed and dangerous in hippy-ville USA…

Supertouch’s own ERIK FOSS (owner of LIT LOUNGE/FUSE GALLERY NYC) brought the downtown LES to hippyville USA (aka: San Francisco) this weekend when his first-ever solo show, “Smokem if You Gottem” opened at the newly inaugurated GALLERY THREE (at 66 Sixth St between Market and Mission). Filled with his distinctive politically-charged (and wildly politically incorrect) collage work, photographs and drawings, the show’s centerpiece, was a massive American flag installation built from a large collection of homeless panhandling signs the artist has collected from coast-to-coast over the last few years. As we reported a few weeks back, Supertouch buddy & YEAH YEAH YEAHS guitarist NICK ZINNER’s solo show of photography currently on display at FUSE GALLERY in NYC’s East Village is a knockout. Now it seems that the venerable NY TIMES finally has an astute downtown art observer on staff in the person of ANDREW GENSLER whose taken official notice of the exhibition in the paper of record. Inimitable art provocateur and Cremaster Cycle mastermind MATTHEW BARNEY isn’t shy about his love for dirty black metal. A fact that guests at his house party and pig roast featuring live performances by such delicately named bands as Copremeis, Inquisition, Dagon, Krallice, and S.M.E.S., couldn’t have been happier about. Master chef Barney kept his metal militia satiated by roasting and carving up several suckling pigs, providing a suitably decadent buffet for the occasion.
